Unlike ordinary soft contact lens, this type of lens is manufactured from silicone - hydrogel material which allows a flow of oxygen to the cornea of ​​the eye and therefore makes these lenses safe to carry up to 30 days without their extraction and cleaning. This avoids depositing unwanted deposits on the lenses and keep your eyes healthy.

The first contact lenses for extended wear up to 30 days are available as early as 80 - ies, but because of the problems they caused, they were allowe to carry only up to a week without removal. Later, in the 90 - ies is present new material silicon - hydrogel, which today is used in making lenses for extended wear. Today, on market you can find several types of contact lenses for extended wear, the most famous are contact lenses from Ciba Vision / Alcon - Air Optix Night & Day which is produced in a box with 3 and 6 contact lenses, and they can be used as therapeutic lenses.

Wearing lenses for extended wear up to 30 days, as well as security in sleep with them, is demonstrated by numerous studies worldwide. However, it does not mean that they should be used without prior consultation and recommendation from your ophthalmologist or optometrist.
